The Centre for Water and Environment Development (CWED) is a non-governmental organisation founded in 1998 and headquartered in Kaduna State, Nigeria. Registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in 2008, CWED has spent over two decades improving lives through sustainable water supply, environmental management, and community development initiatives.
Our work spans both rural and urban areas of Nigeria, addressing critical challenges including access to clean water, sanitation, climate change adaptation, natural resource management, and environmental education.

CWED was established in Kaduna State, Nigeria, with a founding mission to address the growing water and environmental challenges affecting communities across the region. The organisation quickly gained recognition for its community-first approach.
CWED was formally registered with Nigeria's Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), marking a major milestone in the organisation's growth. This recognition enabled expanded partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, and international development partners.
CWED launched the Kaduna AGILE Eco Club initiative, delivering school sanitation, menstrual hygiene, and waste management training to hundreds of students — building the next generation of environmental stewards.
CWED marked World Water Day 2024 with the theme "Leveraging Water for Peace" and simultaneously celebrated International Day of the Forest — reinforcing its dual commitment to water security and ecosystem preservation.
